Presentation on: Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA): Opportunities, benefits and challenges

During my 1-month stay as a guest researcher at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts/ZRC-SAZU in Ljubljana, Slovenia, I gave a presentation on the postdoctoral funding opportunities offered within the frame of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). This presentation was based on personal experiences with the Marie Curie program, during the International Outgoing Fellowship I held from 2013-2016, and focused on the opportunities and benefits provided by this program, from a short- and long-term perspective, while also discussing the challenges of the preparation of a competitive application and providing recommendations in this process.

“Stories of Success – Alumni Voices over 30 Years” at the MSCA Presidency Conference 2026

Research Ireland and the Irish Government Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science are organizing the MSCA Presidency Conference 2026: Celebrating Mobility, Shaping Resilience, which will take place on 4 and 5 November 2026. This event pursues two goals: 1. it aims to generate practical and policy-relevant recommendations on how Europe can better support resilient research careers, enabling researchers to navigate increasingly complex career pathways and respond to a rapidly changing research and innovation landscape; and 2. it celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), and the programme's transformative contribution to researcher development, mobility, training and European research excellence.

In representation of the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA), I am invited to the panel “Stories of Success – Alumni Voices over 30 Years”, which brings together MSCA alumni whose careers demonstrate the impact that the programme has had across disciplines, countries, sectors and career stages. The discussion seeks to explore how the MSCA has influenced individual career journeys, the value of international and intersectoral mobility, and the ways in which the programme has helped researchers build adaptable and resilient careers. Panellists will reflect on the opportunities created through their MSCA experience, the skills and networks gained through mobility, and the lessons they would offer to the next generation of researchers.
